Even Adults Need A Planner To Stay Sane
In high school I remember so many people hated the planners they gave us and could not wait to toss them out at the end of the year. At my school, everyone had to use the school given planner, and some teachers would make you initial the homework you listed in the planner once it was completed. I needed my planner, and quite frankly couldn't live without it.
As an adult I still heavily rely on 2 planners and 2 main notebooks to keep myself sane and my job on track. The planner I use for work is very basic and small so I can take it on the road. I mainly use it to track events and help create habits. The planner I use for my personal life is definitely more detailed and girly so I feel like myself while using it. I use this to write in events, appointments, bill due dates, goals, and as a content planner for my blog
How A Planner Has Helped My Work Goals:
Without a planner and many notebooks I would be extremely lost because of the many different things I am involved in and how often I travel. My career is sales and it helps me not only keep track of when/ where I am traveling, but it also helps me keep my customer notes in order as well. I obviously can't write too many notes, but it helps me quickly jot down what they need and when. It also helps me stay on top of my sales goals in general. At the beginning of the year I usually write my end of year sales goals in the last week of December, but I also write my monthly goals at the beginning of the month then break that number into weeks. Visualizing the numbers in a planner I look at every morning helps me stay on track and remind me I might need to work a little harder that week to meet my goal. It really helps me keep my work life balanced.
How A Planner Has Helped My Personal Finance Goals:
I have not always used a planner for my personal finance goals, but I have recently started to jot down due dates, balances, and upcoming expenses to help me stay focussed on my goals. I have a master spreadsheet that holds a very detailed budget for every month and the next 5 years that doesn't necessarily have things like date night budgeted in because I use it mostly to track my reoccurring bills, debts, savings, and investments. This sheet also calculate my weekly budget of money leftover that I can write in my planner so I can see that number every morning and it just helps me be aware of my budget. Before I used my planner for this reason, I would forget to check my spreadsheet but once a month and never remember my spending allowance, which caused me to over spend and save less than I wanted to.
How A Planner Has Kept Me Sane:
This might sound super silly, but I write down every single small thing I have to do or want to think about in my planner every day. I have diagnosed ADHD and if I don't do this I tend to forget far too many important tasks, events, and responsibilities. I use it like a work calendar that I block off time and details. It is my paper version of a remote employees virtual work calendars where I create notes to plan out my weekends by the hour when I need to.
If you haven't invested in a planner I highly recommend it for your personal or work life. Staying organize helps you grow, and having your goals/ objectives to visually look at every day to keep you motivated. I know it is silly to say it helps keeps me motivated, but I think it is my way of manifesting my life. If you choose to get yourself a planner I hope it benefits you as it has me.
Happy Planning!
